We have an older version (5.5) running on a Windows 7 PC. Will the program run in Windows 8.1?

I've visited the official website and used all the download links, but there is nothing close to version 5.5. Therefore, it's impossible to say if it will work on Windows 8.1 or not, but you can try through compatibility. If you are on Windows 8.1, right click the setup package and then go to Properties > Compatibility. Select Windows 7 from the list and tick the Run as Administrator option and relaunch the installer.
Alternatively, you can use the latest version from the official website, because version 8 supports all the Windows releases (at least the modern ones).
Why can I only send 16 lines of code to my machine with the Trial Version? Is it the DNC Setup options that need to be adjusted?

This is definitely a limitation of the trial installation. A trial doesn't grant you full usage of the application. Yes, you can use and install it, but certain features will be limited, just like the case you're experiencing. The only way to overcome this is by purchasing the full version from its official developer, then you can use it to send the number of lines you need.
Use the following contact details to get in touch with the developer:
Yes, CIMCO Edit supports CAD files, but in order to open a file you first need to install the add-on. You can read more about the add-ons supported by the program on the official website. After the add-on is installed, you have help menus that will show you how to add and open files.
